This pencil sketch was done between Paul Sand and I a few weeks back. We used a grey toned paper and found that in hind-sight we would have been better off using a white paper in order to achieve greater depth in the values. Of course this is not yet finished, and we still have a lot more to add, including the white for the highlight.

Wow! It's been a while, but I feel the bug slowly creeping back in. Anyway; here's a raw image of my most recent paining. I finished it late last year and it's currently hanging on a wall at 500 Social Club, in San Francisco - CA.

Maui: Late Spring 2010

Close Up

This is on a surf board my friend snapped clean in half; about a third of the way up from the tail. I cleaned up those edges and made the elliptical cut through the middle. Then, I re-glassed the exposed edges and sanded everything smooth. (I was lucky in that it was a fairly new board, so there really wasn't any damage to repair.) After all my edges and surfaces were nice and clean I used a white spray-primer. The portrait is drawn with a No. 2 pencil and layered with white acrylic.
Currently this piece is in storage in Maui.
